Woodcrafters is very helpful with advice. 3 guild members work there, too.

Best selection of all types of wood is at Woodcrafters and Crosscuts. Gilmer Wood company has a good website showing pictures and prices of their specialty woods. Goby Walnut is the best source for large slabs. Another source for slabs is Milwaukee Hardwoods

All of the above are guild sponsors and offer discounts to guild members (if you remember to ask).

Sustainable NW Wood is a great place.

    Hi all,

I'd appreciate recommendations for the best local places (one of the Guild sponsors?) for a beginner woodworker to buy lumber? I'd be buying small quantities to get started on some small projects (cutting boards, boxes, picture frames). I don't have expertise in choosing boards, so also somewhere that will give friendly advice (no hard sell) and has a reputation for quality materials?

    TIA,

    Stephen
