Mike is correct. I hadn't thought the Portland Community College idea, but it's a good one. OpenCutList is great, and it's free with the pro version of Sketchup. Here's an example of what it can do. This is a wine box.
I would get a pcc eamil address and then you can get an academic license for 55 bucks a year for the pro version. The pro version is the only one that you can use the very helpfull 3rd party plug ins. My favorite is “OpenCutList”
