Traditional Wooden Clock Mentoring

Instructor: Dick Rohrbaugh

General Description:

The next level of woodworking can only be learned by actual doing.  To aid that, we will be offering a mentoring program for any who would like to build the traditional wall clock pictured below.  It is not a beginner project, but is a good next step for those who are comfortable using the core machines in the shop, can purchase and mill their own wood, and would like to move up a level by building an heirloom that can grace any wall in your home.

The Mentoring Project will occur over 8 sessions with the Mentor available and scheduled as needed. Each project will involve a preview meeting to determine candidate qualifications, interest and to explore details. Selected students are then responsible to obtain their own wood and materials (clock parts, hardware, etc.) prior to starting the Mentoring.

Tools, Equipment or Materials needed:  If students have a pocket square, tape measure, 6” rule, speed square, bevel gauge, marking knife, chisels, etc. they could bring those.  Students should also bring their Personal Protective Equipment.

A variety of hardwoods can be used for the clock project.  Here are examples in cherry and walnut.
