Join us in an invigorating workshop making boxes with Doug Stowe, a master woodworker, teacher, and prolific author. Doug visited us in our early days, in our present facility, and is returning to help inaugurate our new Studio with two workshops on box-making, a presentation on the subject of his newest book, The Wisdom of Our Hands; Crafting, A Life, and a special retreat for our Guild instructors on how humans learn.
In these identical, 2-day, workshops we will make three different boxes using three different joinery techniques to form the corners, and three different lid types. In addition, Doug will demonstrate making a hidden spline joint and a mitered finger joint. We expect to have plenty of time for questions. This is an excellent workshop for anyone beginning their woodworking journey desiring to make boxes with the master.
The boxes we will make are a keyed miter box with floating panel hinged lid, a small lift off lid, and a pencil box with finger jointed corners and sliding top.
The boxes and hinge installation, that Doug Stowe is teaching for us, will be featured in the Jan/Feb 2023 issue of Fine Woodworking magazine. This will be a good accompaniment for the box making workshops.
Prerequisite: Core Tool Certification as we will be using the power tools in the Studio
