Special Free Event – A Virtual Visit with Michael Cullen   

Many woodworkers start their journey learning they must four-square everything and become proficient at layout and precise measurement. We get so wrapped up in 90 degree angles and flat surfaces that we become paralyzed when presented with a blank sheet of paper and the notion of making a free form, organic shape.

In this free, short afternoon Zoom matinee, presented March 13 at 3 PM, the Guild is excited to introduce you to Michael as a master of bandsaw boxes and free form sculpture in wood. He will present his background, show examples of his work,  and describe his approach to thinking about and working with the medium we all enjoy.  You will be introduced to a different way of thinking about woodworking.

Michael will also be teaching two workshops beginning Monday, March 14, and as you will see, these are different kinds of woodworking classes. We often select wood for natural color and grain, overlooking how easy or difficult the wood is to work. We focus on flat and natural, overlooking embellishments with texture and color. In these workshops we begin with blonde pieces of basswood  that is easy to work and quickly make them look interesting.
