Carving SIG - Leroy Setziol

Zoom Program

Jan 12th - Leroy Setziol, Famous Oregon Carver

Leroy Setziol produced over 1,000 wood carvings before he died in 2005.  His work is memorialized with two major art museum exhibitions and a 35 minute documentary.  By the time he got the commission to produce the carvings at Salishan Lodge in 1965 he was reasonably well known but still a struggling artist.  He usually worked on a large scale with noted architects.  His works can still be seen at Skamania Lodge, the entry to the chapel at the University of Portland and many other places.  A list with addresses will be available after the presentation.

This program will review his works, his life and a few of the works of his adult daughter, Monica Setziol-Phillips.

The program will consist mainly of video clips and photographs with some commentary.  We had hoped that his daughter Monica could join us but it didn't work out.

Please register so we can send you the Zoom link and follow-up after the meeting.  For questions contact Larry Wade at lpwade@gmail.com

Note:  If you have never participated in a Zoom meeting contact Larry Wade at lpwade@gmail.com at least several days in advance to help you.
